Operations Engineer at Process Department
One year Training at Pak Arab Refinery Ltd.
Pak Arab Refinery has a refining capacity of 100,000 BPD. The Refinery produces LPG, HOBC, Kerosene, Jet Fuel (JP-1 & JP-4), High Speed Diesel, Light Speed Diesel (LDO), Furnace Oil (FO) and Sulphur.
6 months skill development program at operations Department. It included the study of process description, general plant line-up, equipment detailed study and reports on units:
• Crude Distillation Unit (U-100)
• Vacuum Distillation Unit (U-110)
• Gas Concentration Unit (U-411)
• Visbreaking Process Unit (U-130)
• Dieselmax Process Unit (U-284)
• Naphtha Hydro Treating Unit (U-200)
• Platforming Process Unit (U-300)
• Continuous Catalyst Regeneration Unit (U-312)
• Kerosene Merox Unit (U-801)
• LPG Merox Unit (U-802)
• Amine Treating Unit (U-810)
• Diesel Hydro Desulfurization Unit (U-1010)
Pakistan’s first Bio-Diesel Production plant with the capacity of 100MTPD. Controlling the production and troubleshooting the process at start up and shutdowns. Organize, implement and maintain production process flows. Also responsible for quality control and plant maintenance. Worked on units:
• Storage and Settling Unit: Settling of raw material to remove impurities, Loading and off-loading of Bio-diesel and raw materials and by-products such as Chicken Acid Oil, Methanol, Sulfuric Acid, glycerin and tar.
• Pre-Esterification Unit: Reaction of chicken acid oil with methanol with sulfuric acid as catalyst with the reaction time of 3 hours to produce ester (RCOOR’).
• Trans-Esterification Unit: Reaction of Ester with alkali solution (KOH+Methanol) with the ratio of 1:5 in the tubular reactors to produce transition state ester with acid value ranging from (0.15-0.25).
• Distillation Unit: Vacuum Distillation of the trans-ester in packed column bed to produce LDO (Light Diesel Oil) from top and HDO (Heavy Diesel Oil) from middle and tar from the bottom with the acid value from (0.2-0.5).
• Methanol Recovery Unit: Methanol is recovered at the packed bed column.
Analyzed the whole process from initial crude state to the final production stage of Kerosene, Petrol, Diesel, LPG and Jet Fuel. Finalized the Internship report on process units with the Process Flow Diagrams (PFD):
